Mk man made of mastic. Mastic figurine with frame for stability

Not so long ago, mastic figures began to be used to decorate cakes. But ordering a cake from a professional pastry chef is not always affordable, and there is no way to control the quality of the ingredients used in the baking process and assembling the dessert. In this case, the solution will be homemade decor.

A detailed description of all stages of the work, from choosing the necessary tools and preparing mastic at home to the algorithm for sculpting individual characters, will help even those who last sculpted in school during fine arts lessons to master a sweet sculpture.

Every mother wants to please her child with a beautiful and delicious cake. One way to decorate it is with mastic figures.

The process of their manufacture includes the following steps:

  1. Preparing sugar mass for modeling.
  2. Direct sculpting of figures.
  3. Drying the finished decor and installing it on the cake.

What tools and materials are needed to create sweet sculptures will be discussed in more detail below.

If you have doubts about whether you will be able to make mastic decor yourself, you can always practice on plasticine first, and when you achieve the desired result, start sculpting from mastic.

What tools are needed for sculpting?

In confectionery stores, your eyes are simply wide open from the wide range of various devices for working with mastic, so in order not to buy too much, it is better to familiarize yourself in advance with what these or those tools are needed for.

Confectioners use mastic for the following purposes:

  • covering the finished cake to give the surface smoothness or a certain texture (wood, leather, etc.);
  • for creating flower arrangements (sugar floristry);
  • creation of miniature sculptures (people, animals, fairy-tale and cartoon characters).

Each type of mastic decor uses its own tools.

So, to cover the finished cake with sugar mass you need to have:

  • rolling pin for mastic (regular or textured);
  • silicone mat for rolling out;
  • and an iron to smooth out the coating to avoid wrinkles.

In sugar floristry the following are used:

  • cuttings or plungers of flowers or their petals;
  • silicone weiners to give the workpieces a more natural look;
  • soft mat for thinning the edges of leaves and petals;
  • devices (tables) for drying workpieces,
  • food wire and artificial stamens;
  • brushes with artificial bristles.

To sculpt figures from mastic, you need to purchase a set of special stack tools:

  • Dresden stick for depicting facial expressions;
  • stack-cone (rounded, smooth), which will allow you to make blind cone-shaped recesses;
  • “shell” tool for sculpting animal paws, shells, human arms and legs;
  • Stack boning will help create ruffles on clothes or wavy edges
  • a tool with balls at the ends is used to form eye sockets or other round recesses;
  • stack-arc for creating smiles on the faces of figurines of mastic people.

In addition to these tools, you will need food coloring for coloring the mastic, brushes (necessarily with artificial bristles) and food glue for gluing the parts of the figure.

Preparing mastic for modeling with your own hands

Before making figures for the cake, you need to prepare the sugar mass for modeling.

Mastic for creating flowers and figures should be pliable so that you can easily work with it, and dry quickly so as not to waste a lot of time drying the figures.

Mastic made from:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons instant gelatin;
  • 40 ml water;
  • 3 teaspoons of liquid honey or syrup (invert, glucose or any other);
  • 2 teaspoons butter or any other solid fat (margarine, coconut oil);
  • 1 teaspoon of liqueur (can be replaced with other alcohol);
  • 500 g powdered sugar;
  • 25 g corn or potato starch.

Cooking technology:

  1. Soak the gelatin for the time specified in the instructions for its use.
  2. Combine syrup, butter and liqueur in a saucepan and heat until smooth. Then add the swollen gelatin and heat until it is completely dissolved.
  3. Sift the powder and starch into a mound and make a funnel in the center. Pour the liquid component into the well and knead the mass like regular yeast dough.
  4. Place the finished mass in a tight bag, greased from the inside with butter, expel as much air as possible and leave the mastic to rest for a day at room temperature. After this you can start sculpting.

The simplest mastic figures for beginners

Simple figurines of animals that do not pretend to be sculpturally similar are sculpted using the same technology:

  1. For the body, roll into a ball and give it a teardrop shape.
  2. The head is just a slightly smaller ball that is connected to the body with a toothpick.
  3. The front and hind legs are sculpted from mastic flagella, which are glued with food glue or raw protein.
  4. Next, ears are sculpted: for a bunny - from two wide flagella-stripes, for a cat or tiger (lion) - pointed triangles, for a bear or monkey - two circles with a depression in the center.
  5. A tail is also formed from a flagellum, but thinner. If necessary, they sculpt a hairstyle, for example, a mischievous forelock for a monkey or a mane for a lion.
  6. The sculpting of the animal figurine is completed by designing the face - nose, mouth, eyes.

It’s easy to make various cars out of mastic that would be appropriate on a boy’s cake.

The simplest option is from a single piece of mastic:

  1. Give a solid rectangular piece of mastic of the appropriate color the shape of a car body.
  2. Make wheel-washers from four balls and glue them in place.
  3. Cut out glass (front, back and side) from thinly rolled white or pale blue mastic and also attach them where needed.
  4. Make headlights from small balls of yellow mastic.
  5. Make the necessary additions, for example, inscriptions or eyes, and the machine is ready.

Master class on how to sculpt children's mastic figures

Children's figures made from mastic are usually heroes of their favorite cartoons. Among the huge number of fairies, little animals, robots and cars, the heroes of the cartoon “Smeshariki” will be ideal for a beginning sculptor. Their modeling is carried out according to a principle similar to that already described.

First, the mastic is painted in the desired color (or colors), then a ball-body is rolled out of it, and then proceed as follows:

  1. Bunny Krosh. For the arms and legs, roll two ropes, cut each of them in half and use a stack or a regular toothpick to separate the fingers. Form ears from two wide strips. Next, all that remains is to decorate the face by gluing the eyes from white mastic, and eyebrows from blue mastic, draw pupils and a smile.
  2. Barash. Roll up thin flagella, form curls out of them and glue them with edible glue or egg white. Sculpt the arms and legs in the same way as Krosh’s paws, but making hooves at the ends. Make horns from flagella of darker mastic. Shape the face.
  3. Hedgehog. Roll small balls of blue mastic, give them the shape of needle cones and glue them onto the spherical body. Sculpt the arms and legs like for a bunny. Add glasses, eyebrows, nose, ears, smile and the Hedgehog is ready.
  4. Nyusha. First you need to draw hearts-cheeks and sculpt paws with hooves, as for Barash. Form a snout out of a small ball, making two indentations in it with a toothpick. Weave and glue a braided hairstyle and shape the face.

How to dry mastic figures

Fashioning mastic figures is only half the battle. They still need to be dried properly. When the figures dry unevenly, they can crack, and if the drying temperature is too high, they melt, and the result of long labor cannot be saved. All the intricacies of this process and ways to speed it up will be discussed below.

The simplest and most correct, but also the longest drying method is self-drying at room temperature. Drying the figures, depending on their size, can take up to several days.

Large figures consisting of several parts are usually dried disassembled, and then all the elements are glued together using confectionery glue, raw egg white or vodka. During drying, the figures or their parts should be covered with napkins to prevent dust from falling on them. The napkins will also absorb some of the moisture.

If time allows, then dry the figures only at room temperature.

And if you urgently need to make a decoration from mastic, you can speed up drying in one of the following ways:

  1. Hairdryer Dry the mastic decor much faster by blowing it at a considerable distance with a hairdryer operating in the “Cold Air” mode. In this way, you can dry the figures in just a few hours.
  2. Oven. Using the oven, you can quickly dry flat mastic decorations (for example, letters), but the drying temperature should not exceed 80 - 85 degrees, and its duration should not exceed 5 minutes.
  3. Microwave. The drying principle is the same as in the oven. Figures heated in a microwave oven harden after cooling. But due to the different power of the devices, the drying time will have to be selected experimentally on a small piece of mastic mass.

How long and how are such decorations stored?

Cake fondant figurines can be prepared well in advance of baking and assembling the dessert, but they must be stored properly to ensure they remain soft enough inside and edible. Storage conditions for this decor: sealed container, placed in a cool place away from direct sunlight. The shelf life of the decor, if these rules are followed, will be within 1 - 2 months.

After eating dessert, sweet sugar sculptures can be left as a memory of the special event. In this case, the storage conditions are not so strict: the figures can simply be placed on a shelf that is not exposed to direct sunlight, so that their colors remain bright longer. But eating them after this is not recommended.

    Spider-Man is the favorite character of many boys, he is brave and courageous. Many mothers think about how they can make Spider-Man from cake fondant. Below is a video with a master class on how to make a Spider-Man for a mastic cake with your own hands:

Each of us has the basic skills for this, because we all sculpted something from plasticine in childhood. If only the mastic turned out to be of good quality - it did not tear or crumble.

    First, decide which figure you will get better - three-dimensional or flat (Fig. 1).

    To make a flat figurine, take a picture of Spider-Man, attach it to the rolled out mastic and press the main contours of the figure with a knife. Then trim its edges with a knife, dry it and paint it with special gel food paints diluted with alcohol (Fig. 2).

    The production of a three-dimensional Spider-Man figurine is shown in Figure 3.

    You can also decorate the cake with cobwebs, outlines of houses, stairs, which can also be made from mastic.

    Spider-Man You can make it yourself from mastic to decorate various baked goods: cakes, cupcakes and muffins.

    You can show a mask or half mask on your face.

    Not a difficult master class: we make Spiderman from pieces of mastic:

    Torso and arms with legs

    This is how you can make a Spider-Man figurine for a cake with your own hands from pieces of mastic.

    And one more master class, also not too difficult

    You can also make Spider-Man in a flat image from mastic:

    You can also decorate cakes with a finished Spider-Man figurine:

    A whole Spiderman cake, also made from fondant

    For such a Spiderman cake you need red fondant, then decorate it in the form of a spider web

    Using mastic you can only create a red-blue color or a Spider-Man mask:

    Master class on how to make Spider-Man on video: simple and clear

    All the boys really like the now popular Spider-Man, especially since this character is completely positive. In order to make a figurine of this superhero for a cake from sweet confectionery mastic, you need good quality mastic so that it does not spread. If you are making a flat figurine of Spider-Man, you will need to prepare a stencil in advance, with which you can easily apply the image to the cake. And if you need a three-dimensional figure, then it takes a little time and a little skill in sculpting.

Every mother dreams of her child's birthday being the best and most memorable. After all, you really want to see these enthusiastic children's eyes that glow with happiness, joy and pride. I am proud that it was you, the most wonderful mother in the world, who made this fairy tale for your child, and at the end of the celebration you were presented with the best cake, decorated with a figurine of your favorite hero. And since the generation of our children is now exclusively interested in superheroes, we will make one of them - Spider-Man from mastic.

In fact, every mother can do this; working with mastic is not as scary as it might seem at first glance. The most important thing is to have good mastic, and modeling skills were instilled in us all from childhood. For clarity, we offer a master class on modeling from mastic.

Simple recipe

First, make sure that your mastic is of good quality, otherwise it will be very difficult to sculpt suitable parts, or even all the work will be in vain and time will be wasted. Good mastic can be purchased in specialized stores or you can prepare it yourself. The most common mastic is made from marshmallows and marshmallows.

We will need:

  • marshmallow marmallow, preferably white - 200 g;
  • water, lemon juice or butter - 1 tsp;
  • good quality powdered sugar - 500 g;
  • food colors (red, blue).

Pour the marshmallows into a heatproof bowl and pour 1 tsp into it. water, lemon juice or butter. Place the bowl in the microwave for 40 seconds until the marshmallows have melted and puffed up. If you don’t have a microwave, it doesn’t matter, you can do all this using a water bath. When your marshmallows have melted and almost doubled in size, you need to carefully add powdered sugar into it, preferably with a wooden spatula or spoon.

According to the recipe, 500 g of powdered sugar is needed, but it all depends on the quality of the powder; it is better to mix in small portions so as not to overdo it.

You should get an elastic mass. In order to check the quality of the mastic, you need to pull it slightly by the edge; if it does not crumble or tear, then you have got what you need. Next, distribute the mastic into the desired parts and add food coloring, kneading to a uniform color. Place the mastic in the refrigerator for 30 minutes and let it rest.

Volumetric hero

Before we start sculpting the figure itself, let's decide what it will be like. For example, it can be voluminous or flat, in a horizontal or vertical position.

To complete the work we will need:

  • mastic of 3 colors (white, red, blue);
  • powdered sugar;
  • black pastry marker.

When you take the mastic out of the refrigerator, you will notice that it has hardened a little, this is how it should be, don’t be alarmed. Take red and blue mastic and knead it a little in your hands until it becomes elastic, like plasticine. To prevent it from sticking, lightly sprinkle your hands or the surface of the table with powdered sugar. We sculpt all the necessary parts, connect them into a figure of the shape you need.

You can draw a black web on a super hero costume using a black pastry marker. Your figure is ready, now you need to place it in the refrigerator until it hardens.

Making a flat figure

In order to make a flat figurine of a super hero step by step, you need to make a template. You can find it on the Internet, print it, or simply draw it and cut it out along the outline.

We apply a template onto a rolled out layer of red mastic and also cut it out along the contour using a knife. In order to transfer the design to the mastic, you need to use a toothpick or pencil.

The base should look like this:

We do all the other components of the drawing in the same way.

The art of modeling with mastic has recently burst into the culinary scene. Now almost all pastries and cakes are decorated with figures and various patterns made from mastic. In addition, completely unimaginable shapes can be sculpted from this mass, which together can create an entire cartoon plot or a romantic bouquet.

What is mastic, is it difficult to make figures from it?

The mastic itself is an adhesive and astringent substance, which is also edible. If you knead it correctly, it will be similar in consistency to plasticine.

There are several varieties of this mass. It is created from different products and mixed in different ways. The most famous:

  • Honey: This is a softer type. Suitable for sculpting almost any figures, does not crumble or fall apart;
  • Gelatin-based mastic is distinguished by its high rate of hardening and hardening. Most suitable for preparing the smallest parts;
  • Dairy is one of the most common. Condensed milk is used as the main ingredient. Ideal for creating a base and a continuous coating for a cake, as well as medium-sized figures;
  • Marzipan is used to cover the cake. It is very soft and not suitable for sculpting figures;
  • Industrial or universal mastic is bought in stores. It is used for modeling and rolled out for the base. The taste is practically no different from homemade;
  • Floral - this type of mastic is best suited for creating jewelry that requires delicate work with small details.

Each of these types is good to one degree or another. In any case, you need to try different types in order to understand and adapt to this type of delicious modeling.

Recipe for sugar mastic for sculpting figures at home

Take a suitable container (a wide bowl will be enough), sift the powdered sugar into it, and then add the dry milk mixture. Stir and pour in condensed milk. Now you need to knead the mastic like dough. When mixing, add lemon juice, cognac, and dyes. The result should be an elastic mass that is pleasant to work with and sculpt.

If you do not add dyes, then the mass should be matte.

Do-it-yourself children's figures from mastic for a cake step by step: instructions for beginners

The good thing about mastic is that you can use it to make a wide variety of figures and decorations for goodies. This is especially useful if you need to decorate a cake or pastries for a children's party.

Making a toddler from mastic step by step

To make such a cute little one, you will need flesh-colored mastic. To do this, when preparing the modeling mass, you need to add body dye.

Step 1. Making the body. We fashion a small oval the size of a small chicken egg. Take a toothpick and make a hole just below the center (this will be the navel).

Step 2. Sculpt the head. We take a piece of mastic about 20-25% smaller than on the body and roll it into a ball. You need to insert a toothpick into the upper part of the body. It will serve as a fastening element for the torso and head.

Use a toothpick to make a couple of holes in the head for the eyes. We sculpt the nose from a small piece of mastic: it should be a slightly flattened round piece with a diameter of about 4-5 mm.

We draw the mouth with a toothpick, and do not forget to make deeper indentations for the dimples.

For the ears we take two small balls. We roll them up and use a stack to make a dent in the center. Glue them to the head.

Step 3. We fasten the parts: we put the head on the base (toothpick).

Step 4. Making handles. Take a couple of pieces, a quarter smaller in size than the head. Roll them into sausages. Using a toothpick, make fingers at one end.

Step 5. Attach the arms to the body. If the parts do not stick together well, brush over the joining areas with a brush dipped in water.

You can diversify your baby with a toy or other elements you like.

Little mouse as decoration

First of all, prepare mastic of different colors. You will need yellow, light green, white and pink. For the eyes and mouth you will need black edible beads (powder). If black is not available, you can replace it with dark blue.

The tools you need to prepare are toothpicks, a glass, a mold for the base (a glass or glass will do), a sharp knife or cutter.

Step 1. Make a base from light green mastic. Roll it out to a thickness of 3 mm. We use either a special form or a glass (glass).

Step 2: gift. We take the yellow base. We first make a ball, and then gradually move on to a cubic shape.

The pink mastic needs to be rolled out quite thin: 1-2 mm thick. We take a knife or cutter and cut it into thin strips that will serve as ribbons for a gift. You also need to make a small bow out of them.

From the remains of the rolled out pink mastic you need to make small peas (we use a special form). Their diameter should be approximately 1-1.5 mm. Using a stack or toothpick, they are attached to the gift.

Step 3: mouse. White mastic is used to create the mouse body.

First we make the body: we roll it into a ball, then we try to give it a longer elongated shape. Next we make the paws, they are also slightly teardrop-shaped. Using a toothpick, we mark the stripes that separate the fingers.

We stick toothpicks into each part. We use halves for the paws since they are small. We fasten the body with the legs so that one serves as the base, and the second is in the air.

For the head we roll a ball, then we transform it: we make a notch just below the middle. We make a recess for the mouth and eyes. We insert black beads there. We make a nose out of pink mastic.

We take a couple of small pieces, roll them into balls, then use a stack to make indentations - these are the future ears. They need to be flattened well and the bottom part cut off. We attach them to the head.

Now we put the head on a toothpick securing the body.

The upper legs are made in much the same way as the lower ones, only they should be a little smaller. We make the tail from a thin sausage, which should become thinner towards one edge.

Step 4: flower. We make the stem for the future flower from light green mastic. Roll it into a thin strip 3-4 cm long above the mouse. We make a flower from a piece of pink base. It can be cut with a special shape. Using a stack, we make indentations on the petals. Then we cut out another flower, but smaller in size and make indentations in it. We make the middle from a yellow piece the size of a pea, rolled into a ball. We fasten everything together. From the green mastic we add a small leaf, which we add to the stem.

Lion Cub

You will need 4 colors of mastic: yellow, white, brown and black, as well as tools.

Step 1: sculpt the body and head. The head should be in the shape of a ball, the body should be in the shape of a drop. From white mastic we cut out teardrop-shaped inserts on the body.

On the head for the mouth, add a little white mastic using the bent tip of a sharp stick.

We make eyes and sculpt round shapes around the mouth.

Step 2. We make the paws from yellow and white mastic: we sculpt the main part from yellow, and the part with the toes from white. Don't forget to make lines to separate the fingers.

First add white round parts to the recesses for the eyes, then, a little less, black ones. We make the nose in a triangular shape from the brown mass.

Then we sculpt the ears in the form of flattened circles, as well as the tail (a sausage that becomes thinner towards one end). At the tip we also make a triangular brush from brown mass.

Step 3. We make the mane from the brown mass. It is made in the form of separate petals, which are then attached around the head.

If there is white and black mass left, you can mix them and make pebbles on which the lion will sit. From green you can make splashes of grass.

Let's sculpt a panda step by step

Required:

  • Mastic white and black;
  • Modeling tools;
  • A couple of toothpicks.

Step 1. Take the white mass and roll it into a ball. We make indentations for the eyes on it. We make small balls from the black mass, insert them into the recesses and expand them using a stack. Black color should be throughout the entire area of the recesses.

Add a ball of white mass (nose).

We finish the nose: add a black piece, in which we make a couple of holes with a toothpick or a stack with a sharp tip.

Step 2. From small pieces of black and white mass we make eyes and ears.

The body consists of two parts: a round white one and an elongated black one. We fasten them with a toothpick.

Step 3. Make the paws from black mastic. They should be teardrop-shaped. Now you need to make pads out of white mastic for each paw.

Let's make an airplane

You need two colors of mastic: white and blue, as well as a toothpick or modeling glass with a sharp tip.

Step 1. We sculpt the white trapezoidal body of the airplane. We add a blue glass front glass to it.

Step 2. Sculpt the wings. Take a couple of balls, roll them out a little or knead them with your hands. Making triangular wings. We make the tail a little thinner and trapezoidal in shape.

Step 3. Add stripes to the wings, tail, and the main part using blue fondant.

Step 4. Make eyes from white and black mass. Draw out the mouth with a toothpick or stack.

Sometimes, even following step-by-step detailed instructions, not everything works out and not always. Every craftswoman has a couple of secrets that help in the sculpting process:

  1. Sometimes it is quite difficult to cover the entire cake with fondant carefully. There are folds here and there on the sides that spoil the whole look. In this case, you should roll out the mastic in such a way that a sufficiently large reserve is maintained. Next, we place it on the cake and under its weight it should lie as it should;
  2. It's hard to find black dye. In this case, you can get out of the situation as follows: take three dyes (blue, yellow and red) and mix them in a ratio of 2:1:1. There is also the option of adding blue to brown paint;
  3. To make the mastic coating shine, it needs to be lubricated with a solution of vodka and honey. To prepare it, you need to mix both ingredients in equal quantities. Using a soft brush, lubricate the surface with the resulting liquid.

Fantasize and, perhaps, you will create your own individual figures from mastic, not like anyone else. Good luck!

– the height of mastery: here you need to maintain the proportions of the human body, convey facial expressions and emotions. If you decide to try yourself in this matter, then welcome to our master class.

What kind of cakes can be decorated with human figures? Almost any. This could be a dessert with a naughty nurse in honor of Medical Worker's Day, or it could be a sweet with the hero of your favorite movie or TV series for a teenager's birthday. However, the most popular are wedding figurines of the bride and groom. We will devote most of our article to them.

Wedding cake figurines: what are they?

Long gone are the days when wedding cakes were decorated with a couple of rings, banal doves (swans) or plastic (porcelain) dolls. Recently, the fashion for mastic has dominated the confectionery art. Both the cake covering and its decoration are made from this material. This is understandable. Mastic allows you to bring to life the most daring ideas without restrictions. Even such traditional attributes as figurines of newlyweds made of mastic can be made very original.

Option 1. Unusual placement

Mastic couples can sit on a sofa, in a boat, on an airplane, in a car, or even in a tractor.

Option 2. Original plot

If the couple's sense of humor allows, you can present them with a cake where the bride holds the groom in her arms or takes him away from the computer, etc.

Option 3. Non-traditional execution

Such figures can be made in the style of a kind, friendly cartoon, with slightly changed body proportions.

Wedding figurine “Hostage Groom”: step-by-step instructions

To make this composition you will need mastic of three basic colors: white, black and flesh.

1. We sculpt the heads of the newlyweds. To save material, place a cotton ball or polystyrene foam in the center. It is important here to convey the emotional coloring of this scene, so we pay great attention to the development of facial features.

2. Let's start with the torsos. The groom is dressed in a black tailcoat with a vest and tie. The bride wears a long white dress without straps.

A wooden toothpick is used to attach the head; the remaining parts are joined by wetting individual areas of the figurine with water.

3. Since the bride and groom are interacting in our composition, we need to bend the arms and legs and set the angle of inclination for the figures.

4. Collect and decorate the figures. We make a silver pattern on the bride’s dress, add a veil, a wedding bouquet, earrings, and rhinestones to her hair.

We “shackle” the groom with a chain, and place beer cans next to him.

5. Give the figures a glossy shine using a brush dipped in sugar syrup.

Now the composition is ready to be placed on the birthday cake. You just hope that the bride and groom will appreciate your joke.
